The Grunberg Haus Inn ("Green Mountain House" in German) is a Vermont Inn in a romantic mountainside Austrian Bed and Breakfast chalet built in Tyrolean style architecture. Our inn specializes in personalized attention in a friendly atmosphere of Vermont country charm with quiet romance and relaxation. Guests treasure a wonderful night's sleep in a comfortable bed and wake to savor the smell of freshly baked breads and muffins. You can wander along the trails through the inn's surrounding maple and pine forest. In the evenings, enjoy the fire in the livingroom's large fireplace made of Vermont stone, or the gameroom's beautiful Vermont Hearthstone wood stove. The atmosphere here is classic European country inn: rural, informal, rustic, and quiet. The inn has one first-floor guest room, eight second-floor rooms, and two third-floor suites that are furnished with country antiques, comforters and quilts. The second floor rooms open to a balcony that surrounds the inn and provides a relaxing view. The first floor room has its own small deck which connects to the inn's main garden deck at the rear of the building.
There are two suites on the third floor which each have their own private balconies. The balcony on the Mark Suite at the front of the building often makes guests remark that they feel like they are in a tree house. The balcony at the rear of the building off the Chris Suite has a great view across a small valley to a forested mountain range. The inn is open year around and the cabins are open from late May to the end of October. The Grunberg Haus is centrally located in the Green Mountains of north central Vermont, close to the state's highest peak (Mt Mansfield) and third highest (Camel's Hump). Stowe is about 20 minutes north of the inn and Sugarbush is about 20 minutes south. Mad River Glen and Bolton Valley ski areas are also close. The state capital of Montpelier is about a 15 minute drive. Burlington and Lake Champlain are close too - about a half hour drive.
Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream factory is near (ten minute drive), as are Cold Hollow Cider Mill, Vermont Teddy Bear, Cabot Cheese, and Lake Champlain Chocolates. The University of Vermont (UVM), Champlain College, Saint Michael's, Norwich University, and Goddard College are also very nearby. Despite being close to these traditional Vermont attractions, the inn is in a quiet forest only three miles from Waterbury and five miles from Interstate 89. We are on the scenic and popular Route 100 but we are unusual in being more than 600 feet back from the road instead of being right on the road as most lodging places are. Everything you would want to see or do in Vermont is conveniently located nearby. And we are very happy to sit down with you and give you maps, literature, advice, tips, and directions! Please take a look at the Locations/Directions page for more details. |
